The Avalon Air Show in Australia was the scene of a number of airborne spectacles over the past week, but one C-17 Globemaster III didn’t even make it off the ground before the fireworks began.
In footage released by HD Melbourne Aviation, a bird can clearly be seen flying in front of the cargo aircraft before being sucked into the plane’s massive engines. Almost immediately, a loud bang can be heard with a fireball exiting out the back of the engine.
As HD Melbourne Aviation explained:
Yesterdays airshow saw a problem with the USAF Boeing C-17 Globemaster. Avalon Airport is notorious for having hawks gliding and hanging around the runways. Unfortunately, one of them was sucked into the massive jets of the mighty C-17. Its display was cancelled and the aircraft aborted its landing before being taxied to a hanger for engineers to inspect the damage.
