From The Cockpit: Battle of Britain Flyover

Scott Wolff No Comments Military Aviation

Yesterday, we mentioned the opening salvos of the Battle of Britain, the only campaign in the history of warfare to be fought strictly with airpower.

The anniversary was commemorated in London in a variety of ways, to include a changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace where all of the participants were wearing RAF uniforms, as well as a flyover featuring Hawker Hurricanes, Supermarine Spitfires, and the current generation Eurofighter Typhoons.

Luckily for us, the RAF was kind enough to put a GoPro in the cockpit of a couple of the Typhoons, giving us an opportunity to see the event from the pilots’ perspective. The first portion of the video is seen from the three-ship formation as they roar over Buckingham Palace.

The second portion is from the cockpit of another Typhoon, flown by the RAF demonstration team pilot, as it follows in trail behind a Spitfire along the parade route, all while the Queen and other members of the Royal Family looked on from a palace balcony. What a fantastic day and an even better method of paying tribute to the sacrifice and valor of the RAF.

Enjoy!
