At approximately 1120 local time on Saturday August 15th, two Lockheed-Martin F-16s collided following a local area orientation sortie at Nellis Air Force Base.
Not many details have been released; however, we know both Mishap Aircraft are assigned to the 301st Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve Command unit stationed at NAS JRB Fort Worth, Texas. The 301st is currently one of the participating units in Red Flag period 15-4, a Large Force Employment exercise due to begin tomorrow. According to Nellis officials, the two F-16s collided as both aircraft were still on their landing roll-out.
Nellis Crash Fire Rescue units responded immediately to the scene and at the time of the press release given by the 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs, both pilots had been transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
Right now, the two pilots involved, their friends and family, and the men and women of the 301st Fighter Wing are in our thoughts and prayers. We will provide more details as they become available.
