Warthogs Deploy To Estonia

August 23, 2015 Warthogs Deploy To Estonia
Scott Wolff No Comments Air Force

As we’ve previously mentioned, not only are the air-to-air guys getting in on the action in the Baltic Sea region and elsewhere in eastern Europe, but the Fairchild Republic A-10C Thunderbolt II is also making its presence known. Nothing like a little BRRRTTT to brighten up everyone’s day!

Yesterday, eight Hawgs and approximately 170 Airmen deployed to Ämari Air Base in Estonia, part of a training deployment in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.

These Warthogs and personnel are assigned to the 303rd Fighter Squadron–the flying component of the 442d Fighter Wing at Whiteman AFB, Missouri. A part of U.S. Air Force Reserve Command, these citizen airmen, along with air national guardsmen from three different units, have the task of training with their counterparts in Estonia for approximately three weeks. They will also be training alongside elements of the Finnish Air Force while they’re in Estonia.

Including some low-level flying, the training program will focus on interoperability between the U.S. personnel and their NATO counterparts, demonstrating the continued commitment to security in eastern Europe.

More to come as we hear how the trip is going, so stay tuned!
