BREAKING NEWS: Warplane Downed Near Turkish Border

November 24, 2015
Scott Wolff No Comments News

Good morning, FighterSweep Fans. There’s breaking news coming out of Turkey: according to local sources, a warplane has been downed near Syria’s border with Turkey.

A few grainy, cell-phone-quality photos have emerged, showing what appears to be a Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer in flames prior to impacting the ground a short time later. We don’t know the exact circumstances of the incident, but it appears both occupants of the stricken Fencer were able to eject, and helicopters have been launched to recover the airmen.

The Turkish government is stating the Sukhoi was warned before being engaged, and the aircraft was reportedly shot down by an F-16–not a surface-to-air missile. Russian news media is now reporting the aircraft is indeed a Russian Air Force warplane.

One of the aircrew has been captured by Turkish forces and the other is attempting to evade and escape.

We’ll have more on this story as it becomes available. Stay tuned; things could get really interesting.
