Breaking: Blue Angels Announce Return

June 25, 2016
FighterSweep Staff 1 Comment Navy, News

The Blue Angels announced Saturday that they will return to the skies at Traverse City, Michigan on July 2-4.  The Blues had suspended three previously scheduled shows after the fatal crash of #6 Opposing Solo Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss during the Smyrna, Tennessee airshow.  The mishap is currently still under investigation.

“The Team is proud to resume the Blue Angels mission, representing the pride and professionalism of the Navy and Marine Corps, and inspiring a culture of excellence. The Blue Angels are looking forward to flying in Traverse City, Mich., Fourth of July weekend, and are also honored to have the opportunity to perform in celebration of our great nation’s Independence Day,” said Cmdr. Ryan Bernacchi, commanding officer and flight leader.

“Our fans and the entire air show industry have been extremely patient as we have navigated through this very difficult loss of our teammate, and for that, we will always be grateful.”

It appears the Blue Angels will continue the 2016 season with a modified show, using only 5 jets.   The show will likely include the famous diamond formation and one solo.  Fat Albert, the Blue Angels C-130 will continue to perform its normal routine.  The Blues had been practicing at their home station at NAS Pensacola in anticipation of a return. This is  the 90th anniversary of the National Cherry Festival Airshow on the West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay in Traverse City, Michigan.

FighterSweep is excited to see the world’s greatest aviation demonstration team back on the circuit.  We know you are as well!  Fly Navy!
