Watch: F-35B Test Fire GAU-22 Gun

July 30, 2016
FighterSweep Staff 2 Comments Marine Corps, Military Aviation

This looks pretty mean folks! F-35B BF-01 completes the first ever aircraft-mounted test-fire of the podded GAU-22 cannon at Pax River.

The 25mm GAU-22/A is produced by General Dynamics Ordnance. It is a four barrel system that evenly distributes heat by using a a breech bolt assembly that fires each barrel once per gun revolution.

This test occurred at Patuxtent River on 6 July.  As you can see, the F-35B gun looks pretty lethal.
