Well, this is aviation related! Actually, what Amazon did is truly amazing and will dramatically change our future. Imagine looking up and seeing the skies full of little drones zooming back and forth. This will actually happen much sooner than you think and it will alter many people’s lives.
Called Amazon Prime Air, the company is doing trial deliveries in Cambridge, England and promising the customer will have their order within 30 minutes. The first successful test to a real customer took place on December 7, 2016 taking just 13 minutes. All Amazon flying drones are fully automated and there will be no ‘pilots’ controlling the aircraft.

Limited to delivering packages weighing five pounds or less the Amazon drones will only fly during daylight hours with low winds and good visibility. So if it is raining, snowing or windy don’t expect to see the Prime Air drone arriving at your designated landing pad!

In addition to the United Kingdom, Amazon is currently working on Prime Air sites in the United States, Austria and Israel. Their website states that ‘One day, seeing Prime Air vehicles will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road.’ Amazon has been working on this project for many years and undertaken extensive lobbying efforts to get FAA approval in the US.
Many other companies are actively exploring the idea of airborne drone deliveries including Google and Walmart. Maybe one day soon you will have your pizza delivered from above.
