Operation Desert Storm was the combat phase of the effort to drive Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi Army out of Kuwait after they had unexpected invaded the small oil rich country that shares a border with Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
The United States led a coalition of 34 countries in a war that began with a massive aerial bombardment on 17 January 1991 and ended with a rapidly moving ground invasion on 24 February. The ground campaign was so successful in forcing the Iraqi Army out of Kuwait it achieved victory in only 100 hours.
