US and UK to Ban Passengers from Carrying Large Electronic Devices in Cabin on Fights from Certain Countries?

FighterSweep Staff 1 Comment Civilian Aviation, Commercial Aviation, News, Video

Apparently passengers traveling to the United States and the United Kingdom from certain countries and on certain airlines will no longer be allowed to take ‘large electronic devices’ with them in the airplane cabin. While specific details of this new policy are not being discussed by US officials it reportedly is only for non US based carriers.

A source said the rule would cover around eight to 10 foreign airlines. A separate government official confirmed an Associated Press report that the ban will affect 10 airports in eight countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Royal Jordanian Airlines said in a tweet on Monday that U.S.-bound passengers would be barred from carrying most electronic devices aboard aircraft starting Tuesday at the request of U.S. officials, including those that transit through Canada. Passengers can still carry cell phones and approved medical devices. – Reuters

Note: Reportedly, Royal Jordanian Airlines later deleted the Tweet.

Department of Homeland Security spokesman David Lapan released an email saying, “We have no comment on potential security precautions, but will provide an update when appropriate.”

Under the new precautions passengers would be required to check their large electronic devices so they would be in the baggage compartment of the aircraft and not in the cabin.

Do you agree with this measure or disagree?
