In case you forgot, Armed Forces Day was on last Saturday May 20, 2017. Hope you were able to thank our military members for their service. And if you missed the opportunity to do so then you can still do it today! In reality everyday should be Armed Forces Day.

If you have a story to share about a military member please comment below.

History of Armed Forces Day:

President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.

On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days.

The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense. – Armed Forces Day

Did you know the City of Torrance has the longest running Armed Forces Day Parade in the country? Watch the video below and learn more about it.
