A Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet crashed after launching off of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) while conducting flight operations in the Arabian Gulf.

The pilot and weapons system officer, both assigned to the “Fighting Checkmates” of VFA-211, ejected out of the stricken aircraft and were plucked from the water a short time later by U.S. Navy search and rescue personnel.

According to a spokesman for the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, “Initial reports indicate both are conscious and alert, and without serious injury.”

We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
